for use in his lessons. Mr. Leonard’s vision has since landed a new

convenience and functionality that a 4x4 driving instructor would
have in his rig.
Traction and
drive-ability
The Rat Cage is a tool used for getting more traction. You will get
better traction to the rear wheels due to the added weight. This is
hard to believe, but it’s true. The relocation of the spare tire
directly over the rear axle instead of being inline with the axle is
what gives you the advantage. You will most likely experience less
recoil on the rear suspension during highway driving. Results vary
between ¼ ton and 1 ton suspension properties.

Don’t try to mount them under your truck because they won’t fit most
of the time.

by simply pulling 4 pins and lifting the cage out. The heavy-duty
feet stay behind in the truck bed to act as tie down points when the
pins are reinserted.

After you do some research and see some of the other tire carriers
out there, and the price tags that come with them, you’ll see what

mean about being affordable. For all that the Rat Cage can do for
you, the prices are very reasonable. Go ahead and check out the
competitors. Some carriers you’ll need to buy a trailer hitch and
then remove your tailgate, others you can’t remove it unless you
unbolt it, and then there are the ones that only hold up to a 33”
tire and are made in a foreign country…. Come on, you don’t want
